11 Jun Corporate Cybersecurity: AI Role in Data Protection
In the digital era, corporate cybersecurity is becoming the main frontline for protecting information assets. BDO’s article ‘Corporate Cybersecurity: The Role of AI in Data Protection’ discusses the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) as a strategic tool in the fight against cyber threats. In particular, the authors emphasise that traditional security systems are no longer able to respond quickly to the scale and complexity of attacks, especially in the context of hybrid models of operation
Machine learning (ML) algorithms are able to analyse behavioural patterns, detect anomalies in digital activity, and create predictive models of cyber threats. This allows corporate entities to move from a reactive to a proactive approach to cyber defence. AI also automates routine processes, from malware identification to incident modelling and attack recovery.
At the same time, the authors note that the introduction of AI in the security sector poses a number of challenges. These include algorithmic bias, limitations in decision-making transparency, and new opportunities for cybercriminals. The risk of using ‘malicious AI’ or deep fakes is becoming increasingly real. To effectively counter threats, organisations need to not only integrate technology but also improve risk management and compliance policies
The article emphasises the need to comply with international standards, including the GDPR, and the importance of transparency, ethics and accountability when using AI in cybersecurity. Employee training is also a key component, as increasing employees’ digital literacy reduces the likelihood of phishing attacks and social engineering.
Thus, AI in cybersecurity is not only a technology, but also a strategic management factor that requires a comprehensive approach: technical, legal, ethical, and educational.
