Security reimagined: Connecting minds at the 4th NOTIONES Conference

On 12 June 2025, Fondazione ICSA proudly hosted the fourth NOTIONES Conference in Rome, marking a pivotal milestone within Work Package 7. Under the compelling theme “Safeguarding Tomorrow: The Role of AI in Security,” the event delivered an intellectually charged forum that explored how artificial intelligence is reshaping the landscape of security—conceptually, strategically, and operationally.

Drawing inspiration from the cross-disciplinary insights of WP5, the conference was strategically designed not only to stimulate meaningful debate but also to elevate the project’s overall networking dimension. With this dual ambition, the thematic focus served as a magnet for external participants and collaborators, bringing together a diverse ecosystem of thought leaders and practitioners.

The conference program featured three distinguished speakers, each representing a unique discipline within the security domain. Their presentations illuminated how AI technologies are being adopted and adapted in their respective fields, offering attendees a multidimensional perspective on innovation in security.

A highlight of the agenda was the opening session, which showcased parallel European initiatives aligned with NOTIONES’ mission. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees expressing strong interest in expanding these collaborative showcases at future events.

With targeted invitations sent to consortium members and selected external experts, the conference welcomed 64 participants: 27 from the consortium and 37 external professionals. These included representatives from think tanks, Italian Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), SMEs, large enterprises, and related EU projects—ensuring that the conversation was both rich and far-reaching.
